Why a system underperforms and how it's corrected
A properly designed system usually brings radon well below 4 pCi/L. If yours didn't, there's almost always a reason.
Common causes
- Not enough suction points for the slab's size or sub-slab material
- Unsealed sump pit, floor drains, or large cracks
- An undersized fan
- A crawl space or slab addition not included in the system
- Testing too soon or under unusual conditions
How it's fixed
Diagnostic pressure testing under the slab shows where suction isn't reaching. Fixes include adding a suction point, upsizing the fan, sealing openings, or extending the system to a crawl space. Many contractors guarantee results and will return to adjust.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should my original installer fix it?
If your system came with a performance guarantee, call them first.
Could the test be wrong?
Possibly. A second test under closed-house conditions can confirm.
